What is translation assurance?
Translation assurance is a review of localized content against the approved source before publication. It checks whether meaning, terminology, claims, and conditions remain intact. When an independent review is useful
A translation can read naturally while changing an instruction or a promise. For example, a source that says a service may reduce processing time makes a different claim from a translation that says it will reduce processing time. Consider independent review when such differences have material consequences and your current process leaves uncertainty about what was checked. If your existing review already provides the required independence and evidence, another review may add little value.
Define the content and versions in scope
Start with one release. Identify the approved source, target languages, intended audience, and exact versions to review. Include the context a reviewer needs, such as where an instruction appears or which offer a condition qualifies. Name the release owner and agree who can resolve questions about source intent. Confirm reviewer qualifications and content handling before sharing the asset.
Identify the meaning that must remain intact
List the terms, claims, conditions, numbers, and instructions that affect what the reader understands or does. For product content, this may include units and the order of steps. For a policy, it may include permission, eligibility, or an obligation. For commercial content, it may include price units, renewal terms, and limits on a claim. State where adaptation is acceptable so reviewers can distinguish a harmless wording choice from a material difference.
Compare meaning and resolve findings
Compare each material passage with the approved source. Record the source text, translated text, possible change in meaning, and reason it matters. Automated checks can surface differences; a human reviewer judges them in context. Assign each finding to someone who can resolve it. Check the corrected version before closing the finding. If the source changes, identify which translations and prior decisions need another review.
Keep evidence for the release decision
Retain the review brief, source and target version references, findings, resolutions, reviewer identity, and unresolved questions. Record the release owner's decision separately from the reviewer's recommendation. An approval applies to the scope and versions examined. It does not establish that every possible error has been excluded or replace legal, regulatory, or other specialist approval.
Evaluate the cost of the additional review
A correction after publication can require content updates, another review cycle, and coordination across markets. An independent review also takes time and resources.
